Security Reports – February 11

7:05 p.m. February 2
Security responded to Jewett Residence Hall based a report of an ill female student. It was determined the student had a fever and had been sick all afternoon. She did not want an ambulance and a friend took her to an urgent medical facility.

7:23 p.m. February 2
Security and police responded to a Drake parking lot located at 31st and University based on report of a motor vehicle accident. Both parties had pulled into a Drake University parking lot that was located near-by. Neither party was associated with Drake University. It was alleged the suspect vehicle driven by a male adult tried to flee and when he was followed by the female driver he pulled into the parking lot. Police arrived and handled.

9:06 a.m. February 3
A male student reported someone hit his vehicle while he was parked in the 1200 block of 31st street. The incident occurred between 8:00 p.m. on January 31 and February 1.

2:03 a.m. February 4
A security officer stopped a male and female near Crawford Residence Hall. The underage for drinking female student produced a fake Kansas driver’s license that was made out of a fast food restaurant gift card. It is unknown if there was any monetary value left on the card. The female had slurred speech and alcohol was emanating from her person. The male stated they had been drinking at a bar located in the 3000 block of Forest Avenue. A third male stumbled up and was screaming at other people. The underage for drinking male student produced his Iowa driver’s license as well as a Kansas license belonging to another person not affiliated with Drake University. The fake driver’s license and the license belonging to another person were confiscated. They were all seen back to their residence hall. The matter has been coordinated with the Dean of Students.

2:59 a.m. February 4
Security responded to 30th and Carpenter based on report of a person who has odd behavior and is possibly drunk in a car. A male not associated with the University was sleeping in his vehicle. Police were called and the male adult stated he had been at a bar located in the 3000 block of Forest Avenue and he decided to take a nap before he went home. The officer told him that he was not going to be driving and called a cab for him.

8:15 a.m. February 4
A female staff member in Aliber Hall observed a male adult coming out of her office with her wallet. The staff member chased the suspect down the stairs and outside where she observed two grounds workers. She stated to the workers that the guy stole her purse. Security and police were then notified. One of the grounds workers saw the subject throw the wallet on top of a garage as they proceeded southbound near Cottage Grove. The wallet fell off the garage and it was retrieved by the worker. The worker continued pursuit and stopped the suspect near 29th and Cottage Grove. Security and police arrived and the subject was arrested for burglary. He was also advised on trespass. In 2004 the subject had been advised on trespass at Carpenter Hall and in the early 1980’s he was arrested for theft in the Harmon Fine Arts Center.

10:50 a.m. February 4
Security responded to Herriott Residence Hall based on report of someone having a BB gun in his room. The male student was cooperative and turned the toy gun over to security.

2:20 p.m. February 4
A staff member of the Drake Post Office advised he struck a vehicle in a Drake parking lot with the University vehicle. The female student victim was called and a police report was filed.

1:44 p.m. February 5
A male student reported he observed a vehicle strike another vehicle in the 1300 block of 27th street about 11:00 a.m. on February 5. The victim and suspect were contacted and will be exchanging information.

11:13 p.m. February 5
A male adult was advised on trespass at Carpenter Residence Hall. The male stated his wife had just left him and he was looking for somewhere to stay. Police were called and suggested a homeless shelter as he had no money. A police vehicle was called to assist.

2:11 a.m. February 6
A security officer observed (CCTV) a vehicle strike another vehicle in a Drake parking lot north of Carpenter Residence hall. The suspect driver tried to escape but got stuck in the snow. The 19 year old former Drake student had been drinking and struck a vehicle belonging to a female student. The victim and police were called. The suspect’s vehicle was impounded and the suspect was arrested for intoxication.

3:14 a.m. February 6
Security responded to the third floor of Stalnaker Residence Hall based on report of a male sitting next to the toilet and trying to vomit into the toilet. The underage for drinking male stated he was okay but that he had 4 or 5 beers. He stated he was at the University to visit a friend and that he and the underage for drinking female student were drinking at a bar located at 35th and University. The Dean of Students was advised.

12:26 a.m. February 7
Security responded to Stalnaker Residence Hall based on report of a female having heart palpitations and hyperventilating. Fire/Rescue was called and they checked her vitals which were okay. Fire/Rescue personnel offered transportation to a hospital but she declined as her breathing was back to normal.

3:15 a.m. February 7
A security officer observed two suspicious males standing around near 32nd and Carpenter. Both students advised they had been drinking at their home and then at a bar located in the 3000 block of Forest Avenue and that they were waiting for a friend to pick them up. One of the students was underage for drinking. Asked how the underage for drinking student got into the bar he stated he just walked in. Their ride arrived and they were taken away. The Dean of Students was advised.

3:30 a.m. February 7
A security officer observed a female swaggering near 32nd and Carpenter. She was recognized as the same underage for drinking female student encountered by security in almost the same location a week prior. Alcohol emanated from her breath and her speech was slurred. She was obstinate and aggressive. She was escorted on foot back to Ross Residence Hall. A resident assistant was called to be made aware of her condition and met the officers and intoxicated student at her room. The student entered her room and a roommate was present. The matter has been coordinated with the Dean of Students.

5:40 p.m. February 7
Security and police assisted with a motor vehicle accident at 29th and Forest. A female student and a female not affiliated with the University were involved. There were no injuries and information exchanged.

2:23 a.m. February 7
Security heard via the police monitor that a male Drake student was assaulted at a bar located in the 2300 block of University Avenue. Additional information obtained was that the suspect in the case is also suspected to be a male Drake student. Police, security, and the Dean of Students officer are coordinating the case.

1:05 p.m. February 9
Security responded to Meredith Hall on a student with a medical issue that did not want fire/rescue. The female student has an on going medical condition that apparently requires a small period of sleep before she becomes coherent. Thus was case in the current experience. She awakened and stated she was fine. Security has been involved with the same student twelve different times during her time at Drake.
